Red Square is the most famous city square in Moscow and, probably, one of the most famous in the world. It separates the Kremlin, which used to be the royal citadel and is now the official residence of Russia's President, from a historic trading part called Kitai-gorod. As the principal Moscow streets radiate from here in every direction, Red Square is often considered the central square of Moscow and of the Russian Federation.
Resurrection Gate is the only existing gate of the Kitai-gorod in Moscow. It connects the north-western end of Red Square with Manege Square and gives its name to nearby Voskresenskaya Square (differently called Resurrection Square).
Moscow parks are also popular with foreign visitors. Alexander Garden was one of the first public parks in Moscow. There are three separate gardens placed along the western Kremlin wall.
The State Historical Museum of Russia is located between Red Square and Manege Square. There are exhibitions of remnants of the prehistoric tribes that live on the territory of present-day Russia as well as extremely valuable masterpieces of art obtained by the Romanov family. The number of items in the museum's collection averages out at millions.
